SEOUL: There was a hearth and an explosion on a vessel operated by South Korean shipper within the Strait of Hormuz on Monday (Might 4), the overseas ministry in Seoul stated.

The federal government was checking intelligence that the vessel, HMM Namu, might have been attacked, Yonhap Information reported citing authorities officers.

There have been no casualties reported and authorities have been investigating what precipitated the blaze that, HMM stated, broke out within the engine room of the Panama-flagged cargo ship.

Twenty-four crew members, together with six Korean nationals, have been on board, the corporate instructed Reuters.

The US navy stated two US Navy guided-missile destroyers had entered the Gulf to break an Iranian blockade and that two US service provider ships had transited the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran stated it had prevented a US warship from getting into the Gulf.

“Our authorities will talk carefully with related international locations concerning this matter and take essential measures to make sure the security of our vessels and crew members contained in the Strait of Hormuz,” South Korea’s overseas ministry stated in an announcement.

Seoul has stated 26 South Korean-flagged vessels have been stranded there.
