    UK supported French operation to board sanctioned Russian tanker, minister says

    LONDON: Britain supplied monitoring and monitoring help for a French operation to board a sanctioned Russian oil tanker in a bid to choke off the funds that gas Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UK defence minister John Healey mentioned on Thursday (Jan 22).

    Healey mentioned this help included a vessel, HMS Dagger, monitoring the tanker because it handed by means of the Straits of Gibraltar. The tanker, named the Grinch, is topic to UK and European sanctions for facilitating commerce in sanctioned oil and types a part of a rising internet of the so-called “shadow-fleet.”

    “Deterring, disrupting and degrading the Russian shadow fleet is a precedence for this authorities,” Healey mentioned in a press release.

    “I can affirm that the UK has supplied monitoring and monitoring in help of the French operation to board the tanker Grinch.”

    He mentioned Britain and its allies have been stepping up their response to so-called shadow-fleet vessels, which he described as serving to finance Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine.
