    WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has delayed steeper US tariffs on some imported furnishings gadgets for a 12 months, ordering the postponement shortly earlier than they had been because of take impact Thursday (Jan 1).

    The rise had been deliberate below an earlier tranche of sector-specific tariffs imposed by Trump, a part of a slate of duties he has rolled out since returning to the White Home.

    However with US households feeling the pinch from elevated prices of residing, Trump late Wednesday pushed the deliberate tariffs – 30 per cent on sure upholstered furnishings and 50 per cent on kitchen cupboards and vanities – to January 1, 2027.

    “Given the continued productive negotiations relating to the imports of wooden merchandise, the President is delaying the tariff enhance to permit for additional negotiations to happen with different nations,” the White Home stated in an announcement saying the transfer.

    Trump’s tariffs in 2025 affected items starting from metal to autos, and extra investigations – that would result in new levies – are underway.
