To the editor: This text illustrates the truth that fixing the local weather disaster is a political drawback — simply solved on the poll field (“The surprising reason California survived record summer heat without blackouts,” Sept. 11). Californians elected forward-thinking politicians who set clear power targets. These politicians created and supported packages to scale back dependence on polluting fossil fuels and velocity deployment of renewable power. California’s clear power achievements are the results of enlightened politics.

The science is evident: Fossil gasoline air pollution is killing hundreds of thousands and overheating the planet with dire penalties. The economics are clear: Clear renewable photo voltaic, wind and battery storage are cheaper than soiled fossil fuels. Politics maintain the options.

Political choices — who we vote for, which events and insurance policies we help — will decide whether or not we decarbonize our financial system earlier than local weather adjustments overwhelm us. The one approach to cease international warming and the rogue fossil gasoline trade inflicting it’s by way of political motion, which implies voting for these politicians who help phasing out fossil fuels and towards those that don’t.

To the editor: The explanation reliance upon battery storage to keep away from blackouts is stunning is as a result of there may be not a each day headline alongside these strains: “Battery storage helped keep away from one other blackout yesterday.” Local weather-hushing in most media areas leaves folks unaware of the quiet however relentless advance of unpolluted power and storage. That is now reaching a efficiency stage splashy sufficient to report.

I’m optimistic that as residents develop into extra conscious, the advantages of unpolluted power (lowest price, least polluting) will speed up transition away from Earth-heating fossil fuels. Go to a city corridor and ask the candidates, “What’s your place on allow reform to get extra clear power infrastructure constructed?” Let’s shorten the delays which are a barrier to so many pending large-scale clear power initiatives.

A future of unpolluted and wholesome air and water and smaller electrical payments is just not a pie-in-the-sky dream. It’s inside attain.
