To the editor: As a former Los Angeles resident and native Tulsan, I used to be distressed to learn that L.A. Councilmember Bob Blumenfield thinks that sending elephants Billy and Tina to our Tulsa Zoo is a foul concept (“Last two elephants to leave L.A. Zoo after years of controversy. But their new home is the subject of debate,” April 22). He may come to Tulsa and take a look at the zoo earlier than giving such an opinion!

We Tulsans love our zoo, particularly the elephants. This 12 months, the zoo opened a brand new 36,650-square-foot barn and added about 2 acres of devoted yard area. It additionally just lately opened the previous elephant exhibit because the Elephant Expertise. Adjustments embody an intensive renovation of the elephant barn, interpretive heart and outside areas that initially opened in 1995. A brand new protect, which provides one other 10 acres, will likely be prepared for exploring this summer season.

Billy and Tina will likely be welcome, and they’ll love dwelling in our Tulsa Zoo.

    Suzanne Rausch, Tulsa, Okla.
