To the editor: The current article relating to by whom and why the American flag is flown was under no circumstances shocking given the state of society and politics in the US in the present day (“Why most Black Americans say they never fly the American flag, according to a new AP-NORC poll,” June 30). I used to be raised in a really progressive and Democratic house, and nonetheless maintain these rules. Whereas there’s a notion that flying the flag could symbolize assist for presidency insurance policies one doesn’t imagine in, I fly the American flag in addition to the flag of California, as no single political faction owns patriotism.
As a former Superior Courtroom decide, I swore to assist and defend the constitutions of the US and California in opposition to all enemies, international and home. That may be a principle all ought to embrace and have fun, flag or no flag.

To the editor: Inside days after 9/11, my go-to ironmongery store (B & B {Hardware} in Mar Vista) had T-shirts and baseball caps on the market emblazoned with the American flag and the phrases “God Save America.” I purchased a number of of every and I used to be proud to put on them.
As of late, I really feel uneasy carrying them, as I’m afraid they now current me (an outdated liberal white man) as a right-winger, which I’m not. Unhappy.
