To the editor: Kudos to Lengthy Seashore for its dedication to increasing its bikeway community (“Long Beach as the new Amsterdam? Bike lane boom sparks cheers, debate in the city,” Sept. 25). Amsterdam, referenced within the article as a mannequin biking metropolis, solely introduced bicycle transportation into the mainstream after years of bikeway buildout.
As our native cities make widespread progress on offering secure, handy and full bikeway networks, will we see substantial numbers of individuals shifting their journeys from automobiles to bikes. And one of the simplest ways to try this is to make it occur as rapidly as potential, to keep away from the drawn-out ache and controversy of gradual, incremental bikeway implementation.
