To the editor: Among the many assaults on science talked about within the column is a rule proposal that “would in impact make all scientific grant functions topic to the oversight of politically-appointed commissars” (“The right-wing attack on science reaches a nadir, but it could get worse,” June 11). That is like letting the fox into the henhouse.
This continues the administration’s assaults on science and well being analysis, together with drastic cuts to the Nationwide Science Basis and Nationwide Institutes of Well being. As columnist Michael Hiltzik discusses, there may very well be severe implications for the well being of our residents.
Having President Trump, who has referred to as local weather change a hoax and usually has no respect for science, and his sycophantic Republicans dictate how science is to be carried out is horrifying.

To the editor: As Hiltzik factors out, science analysis is being attacked on all fronts, from academe to authorities businesses and now even skilled scientific organizations just like the American Diabetes Assn.
Science analysis is what makes a wholesome inhabitants. Albert Einstein said it best: “One factor I’ve discovered in an extended life: that every one our science, measured in opposition to actuality, is primitive and childlike — and but it’s the most treasured factor now we have.”
