    French MPs vote to repeal regulation that ruled slavery in colonies.

    The “Code Noir” (or Black Code) is a regulation many have been shocked to find nonetheless existed in France.

    It dates again 400 years and descriptions the principles that ruled slavery in French Caribbean colonies – guidelines that allowed slave house owners to deal with their labourers as property that may very well be purchased, offered and inherited; guidelines that permitted merciless punishment comparable to beatings – usually to dying – and hangings.
