    NEW YORK: A member of Japan’s yakuza crime group was sentenced to twenty years in jail by a New York courtroom on Tuesday (Mar 3) after being convicted of trafficking nuclear materials in addition to medicine and weapons.

    Takeshi Ebisawa, 61, has been jailed since April 2022 on drug and weapons costs, alongside along with his Thai co-defendant Somphop Singhasiri, following years of investigations by the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

    In February 2024, he was additionally accused of attempting to promote military-grade nuclear materials, together with narcotics together with heroin and methamphetamine, to purchase weapons, together with surface-to-air missiles, for armed teams in Myanmar.
