    UN chief calls Israeli plan to take control of Gaza City a ‘dangerous escalation’

    WASHINGTON: United Nations Secretary-Basic Antonio Guterres on Friday (Aug 8) criticised Israel’s plan to take control of Gaza City, along with his spokesperson calling it “a harmful escalation” that may end result within the compelled displacement of Palestinians.

    Israel’s safety cupboard has permitted the plan as a part of a wider army offensive within the Palestinian enclave, which has been devastated by almost two years of Israeli assaults. The transfer has drawn sturdy condemnation from world leaders and regional powers.

    When requested by Fox Information on Thursday if Israel meant to take over your complete coastal territory, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu replied: “We intend to.”

    ‘DANGEROUS ESCALATION’

    “This determination marks a harmful escalation and dangers deepening the already catastrophic penalties for tens of millions of Palestinians, and will additional endanger extra lives, together with of the remaining hostages,” the UN chief’s spokesperson mentioned in a press release.

    The plan “will lead to extra compelled displacement, killings and large destruction, compounding the unimaginable struggling of the Palestinian inhabitants in Gaza,” the assertion added, noting that compelled displacement is illegitimate underneath worldwide legislation.

    Iran’s international ministry accused Israel of planning “genocide” by way of its actions in Gaza. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar additionally condemned Israel’s strikes to occupy the territory.
