    Trump signs proclamation to pause some beef tariffs despite backlash from farmers, GOP

    President Donald Trump has formally signed a proclamation quickly lifting tariffs on some international imports of beef starting Sept. 1, regardless of the firestorm of backlash he has acquired from farmers and Republican lawmakers over the motion. 

    This motion solely applies to lean beef trimmings “to mix with U.S. beef” for floor beef, the White Home stated. These meat elements already entered the U.S. at a low tariff, however this motion expands the quantity to 300,000 metric tons.

    Montana Republican Sen. Tim Sheehy criticized the administration’s choice and stated he even suggested the president in opposition to it.

    “I’ve suggested President Trump in opposition to this plan of action for a 12 months as a result of American ranchers have been struggling in opposition to the packer monopoly for many years, and this may additional hurt them – most of whom are MAGA Republicans,” Sen. Sheehy posted on social media.

    Wyoming Republican Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso additionally expressed his disapproval for the plan, saying on social media that “People need US beef on the desk – not international imports.”
