    The US and Iran signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding aimed toward ending 4 months of battle on Jun 17, beneath which each side agreed to stop hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, via which a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied pure gasoline usually transits.

    However tit-for-tat weekend strikes threatened to derail the delicate accord. 

    A return to talks would comply with a number of days of strikes and counterstrikes since an Iranian projectile hit a cargo vessel within the strait on Thursday, with each the US and Iran accusing one another of breaking the interim ceasefire.
