To the editor: As a Democrat (by way of get together) and a democrat (by way of my perception in democracy), I strenuously oppose the thought to reverse, even briefly, California’s voter mandate for independently drawn political districts. This text aptly describes the dangers of such a maneuver (“California Democrats may target GOP congressional districts to counter Texas,” July 25).

The proposed Texas gerrymandering is simply one of many methods the governments of Texas and different states proceed their dishonorable, undemocratic and marginally authorized efforts to attain Republican victories. Examples are guidelines that suppress voter registration, limitations to casting a poll and state supervision of native elections the place Republicans have misplaced. If not via gerrymandering, they are going to proceed to search out methods to cheat.

Adherence to the need of California voters for impartial redistricting is just not “holier than thou” as Gov. Gavin Newsom suggests. Certainly, Democrats should be placing up the perfect battle potential proper now. However, a “win” on this battle is a dropping proposition long run. In assist of democratic rules, let’s please not stroll into this Texas sewer.

To the editor: Bravo, columnist George Skelton (“Newsom responds to Trump’s gutter politics,” July 28). President Trump is dragging this nation into the gutter. The voters couldn’t have seen this coming 15 years in the past when Proposition 20 was on the poll, however since we’re there now, are we supposed to only wallow, swallowing the bile whereas nonetheless believing we’re the higher angels? What has that gotten us to this point? Solely extra insults and threats.

Struggle on, Newsom. That’s the spirit!

    ..

To the editor: I voted for nonpartisan redistricting as a result of I assumed, and nonetheless assume, it’s the proper factor to do. Nonetheless, within the face of Texas’ transfer to openly redistrict to maintain management of the Home of Representatives with the GOP, I see no want to face by and let California be run over.

Newsom should come to the protection of California with new districts. There isn’t a glory or reasonableness in standing in entrance of the Home of Representatives shouting, “We’re holier than Texas.”
