A robust 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck close to Papua New Guinea on Saturday morning native time, in accordance with the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake was centered 194 km southeast of Kimbe, the capital of the province of West New Britain, in accordance with the U.S. Geological Survey.
A number of aftershocks, together with a 5.3 magnitude earthquake, adopted, in accordance with U.S. Geological Survey information.
The quake prompted the U.S. Tsunami Warning Heart to concern a tsunami warning for the Pacific island nation, saying, “Hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts.”
The tsunami risk alert has since been canceled.
