Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is shortly forgetting about quarterback Arch Manning’s midseason struggles.
After the QB dedicated three late-game turnovers (two interceptions, a fumble) in consecutive losses to the Oklahoma Sooners (27-24) and Florida Gators (27-24) in Weeks 6 and seven, the coach reportedly gave backup QB KJ Lacey extra first-team reps to problem Manning. He has responded.
Manning led the Longhorns to consecutive wins over the Ole Miss Rebels (34-27) and Mississippi State Bulldogs (31-3) in Weeks 8 and 9, serving to Texas (6-2) climb from No. 19 to No. 10 within the Related Press High 25. During this span, he accomplished 34 of fifty passes (68 %, above common) for 432 yards, tossing 4 landing passes and two interceptions.
Manning’s current play has Sarkisian gushing over his QB.
Sarkisian acknowledged that the offense has a number of areas to enhance, particularly the offensive line. The Longhorns have allowed 24 sacks (No. 3 within the SEC). That stated, if the remainder of the unit follows Manning’s instance, it could lastly flip the nook throughout a season-defining stretch.
Texas coming into tough portion of schedule
Three of the Longhorns’ subsequent 4 video games are on the street, together with clashes in opposition to the No. 19 Missouri Tigers (6-2) and No. 15 LSU Tigers (6-2) in Weeks 10 and 11. Each matchups have big School Soccer Playoff implications for Texas.
If Texas beats Missouri, LSU and the Texas A&M Aggies (4-4) in its last three street video games, ESPN’s predictor offers it greater than a 99 % probability to achieve the CFP, even when it misses the SEC Championship Recreation. If the Longhorns lose two of those matchups, their possibilities will plummet to a few %. It must be zero. No group with 4 losses has ever made the CFP.
With that in thoughts, Texas cannot afford to slide in opposition to Missouri, led by star QB Austin Simmons (16 TD passes, tied for No. 4 in SEC). If Manning and the Longhorns outpace the Tigers’ high-powered passing assault on Saturday (ESPN, midday ET), Sarkisian will reward the junior QB much more.
