To the editor: It’s arduous to think about something extra harmful and pointless than spraying lethal herbicides within the open flood management channels or “washes” of Southern California (“Fear that herbicides are poisoning Orange County creeks blows up on social media,” March 1). Not solely does spraying the chemical substances discovered within the weedkiller Roundup endanger runners, bicyclists and the residents of close by communities, but in addition, the residue flows instantly into the ocean.

The spraying of poisonous herbicides in San Juan Creek ought to cease instantly. Certainly Orange County Public Works officers may use what officers in San Diego County are utilizing: human beings with tools to manually handle plant development and removing. Destroying these important ecosystems with poisonous chemical substances that find yourself within the ocean is careless and irresponsible.
