JAKARTA, Indonesia — Indonesian rescuers launched a search operation Sunday after authorities misplaced contact with a passenger ship carrying greater than 240 individuals within the Java Sea whereas touring from East Java to South Kalimantan province, officers stated.

The Search and Rescue Workplace within the metropolis of Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, which is situated on Borneo island, stated it obtained a report two hours after contact was misplaced with the Virgo Transport 8 at about 2 a.m. Sunday. The ship had departed from Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest metropolis in East Java province, en path to Banjarmasin.

“The ship’s operator reported the incident to authorities after receiving data that the vessel had encountered dangerous climate,” stated I Putu Sudayana, who heads the Search and Rescue Workplace, in a video briefing.

Preliminary data indicated the vessel’s final recognized place was within the Java Sea, about 148 kilometers (92 miles) from a pier in Banjarmasin. The ship’s manifest stated it was carrying 241 passengers.

There have been no fast reviews of casualties.

The vessel’s operator, PT Virgo Yoel Rihi, reported the lack of contact and stated the ship departed Surabaya on Saturday at 10:13 a.m. native time.

In response, a rescue crew was dispatched to Banjarmasin’s Basirih Search and Rescue pier, and a rescue ship was headed to the Virgo Transport 8’s estimated final recognized place.

Sudayana, who’s coordinating the search, stated authorities have been mobilizing all accessible personnel and property as a result of the vessel was carrying numerous passengers and crew.

He stated the company was coordinating with maritime authorities and different related businesses within the search, whereas carefully monitoring climate circumstances within the space.
