To the editor: Excuse me, however are we ignoring the elephant within the room? This op-ed (“No military strategy can stop Mexico’s cartels,” Aug. 26) by no means mentions that the USA is the world’s No. 1 consumer of illicit medicine. Utilizing army power to fight drug cartels is sort of a determined enterprise that can do little in coping with the foundation causes of the drug drawback within the U.S.: stress, financial insecurity, poverty and psychological well being points. And with our present state of uncertainty, the issue might be going to worsen. We have to create stronger preventive measures to really scale back our epidemic dependency. The previous saying goes: “So long as there’s a demand, there’ll all the time be a provide.” Let’s rid ourselves of the demand.
