To the editor: I want to specific my gratitude for the variety of actors coming to the protection of Mark Ruffalo within the wake of the antisemitism allegations being made in opposition to him (“Jewish artists defend Mark Ruffalo amid Paramount’s allegations of antisemitism,” Sept. 1).
Having taught each communications and legislation programs for greater than 30 years, I can attest that these allegations could be laughable in the event that they weren’t so duplicitous.
Mainly, the technique is easy, and was used repeatedly in opposition to outspoken actors like Humphrey Bogart throughout the McCarthy period. When your viewpoint is indefensible from an moral standpoint, you divert consideration from it by inserting your opponents on the defensive. This forces them to spend extra time and vitality repelling these assaults than specializing in their principal message.
So, let’s not overlook this message. The MAGA monopolization of the corporate-controlled media is a hazard to the Structure, to equity and impartiality, and to democracy itself. Don’t let this message be diluted by these searching for to revenue from it.
