To the editor: Robert Redford shall be greatest remembered for teaming with Paul Newman in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Child” and “The Sting,” and with Dustin Hoffman and Jason Robards in “All of the President’s Males” (“Robert Redford, Oscar-winning generational icon who founded the Sundance Institute, dies at 89,” Sept. 16) His portrayal of Roy Hobbs in “The Pure” foreshadowed Kirk Gibson’s storied second for the Dodgers within the 1988 World Collection. He additionally championed the setting and unbiased filmmakers.

But it surely was as a director that Redford actually shined. “Bizarre Folks,” which gained Oscars for greatest image and director, succeeded due to the nuanced performances he coaxed from Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland and Judd Hirsch. “Quiz Present” reconfirmed his abilities.

To the editor: I’m unhappy to listen to that Redford handed away. As quickly as I heard about it, I considered some early TV work of his in an episode of “The Twilight Zone” titled “Nothing within the Darkish,” which offers with the topic of our mortality. As his character gently defined to an aged lady: “What you thought was the top is the start.”

Thanks for all the things, Robert.
