To the editor: This text highlights the pressing want to guard scientific funding from political interference (“Federal judge orders Trump to restore $500 million in frozen UCLA medical research grants,” Sept. 22). Analysis grants should be awarded and maintained on the idea of advantage, not controversies involving campus debates or admissions insurance policies.

Publicly funded analysis has produced breakthroughs in most cancers remedy and the prevention of infectious illnesses. Metaphorically talking, utilizing grants as political leverage is like depriving an orchard of water due to a dispute over a fence — it stunts the expansion on which society relies upon. To safeguard innovation and public well being, federal analysis investments should stay bipartisan and shielded from partisan strife.
