Letters to the Editor: Pope Francis leaves behind a climate legacy that must be heeded

To the editor: The headline says all of it in columnist Sammy Roth’s current article on Pope Francis (“Pope Francis was a climate hero. Trump’s reign gives his words extra meaning,” April 22). I’m not Catholic, however I mourn the pope’s loss of life as a result of he spoke for thus many people. Francis had a background as a scientist previous to becoming a member of the priesthood, and he was considerate and clever. His prescient “Laudato Si’” which, as Roth notes, is “nearly definitely probably the most well-known local weather essay ever written,” leaves a wealthy legacy we inherit and a name we should heed.

Of the numerous images circulating for the reason that pope died, my private favourite was taken in Rome and depicts a smiling Francis going through the younger environmentalist Greta Thunberg holding a small poster that claims, “Have fun Laudato Si.’” It reminds us that, for our species and the opposite planetary species we’re linked to, we should battle the local weather disaster.
