To the editor: Till I retired final June, I taught literature within the Worldwide Baccalaureate (IB) program at Quartz Hill Excessive Faculty in Lancaster. Of all of the issues I liked in regards to the IB curriculum and strategy, my favourite was that oral exams represent a major a part of the IB evaluation program within the numerous disciplines (“Perfect homework, blank stares: Why colleges are turning to oral exams to combat AI,” April 28).

The exams’ strict codecs don’t give college students alternatives to cheat — both they’ll ship or they can not. They put together their presentation upfront, however have no idea what questions they are going to be requested and should synthesize the fabric on the fly. The exams are recorded and despatched to IB headquarters for exterior moderating.

A few of my shyest college students shone the brightest in these exams. College students who had not finished the work flailed and failed.

The rigor and number of IB instruction has all the time given college students a leg up with regards to faculty readiness. Right here is but one more reason for IB to be this system of alternative for bold and intellectually curious college students.
