Letters to the Editor: One dangerous threat still lies beneath Baldwin Hills’ development plans

To the editor: Wonderful, complete article by senior author Doug Smith on the alternatives and challenges for winding down the oil discipline and redeveloping housing and open house as a replacement (“As a century-old oil field winds down, what’s next for Baldwin Hills? A sprawling park or housing?,” Nov. 9). Just one key problem was omitted: the energetic and probably hazardous Newport-Inglewood fault, which bisects Baldwin Hills.

No worries. I’m positive builders will construct houses on high of the fault zone that may stand up to a significant fault rupture. If you wish to transfer into a type of houses, I’ll hold your beer and watch.
