To the editor: Neither Mayor Karen Bass nor Metropolis Councilmember Nithya Raman has the ability to do something in Israel (“Bass and Raman split on Gaza and the term ‘genocide’ during Jewish Federation forum,” Sept. 30). They will’t legislate there, they aren’t Israeli residents, they usually can’t vote there. So I’ve one query for each of them: Why are you losing your breath even making an attempt to articulate one thing over which you might have completely no jurisdiction or affect?
We, the residents of Los Angeles, are voting or not voting for one in all you based mostly on what we imagine you are able to do for us and for our metropolis. Once more, that metropolis is Los Angeles, not Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa or wherever else in Israel — which, final I checked, occurs to be roughly 7,572 miles away from L.A. Metropolis Corridor.
Los Angeles Jews, of which I’m proudly and unabashedly one, have each cause and proper to know the way you propose to guard and take care of us, in addition to for each different citizen on this wildly various metropolis of ours. For both of you to preach on whether or not or not Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza is none of what you are promoting. And it’s a waste of all our time, Jew and non-Jew alike. Please keep in your lane and inform us how you’ll make L.A. higher for us right here.

To the editor: Whereas the issues in Gaza are critical and far-reaching, I’m vastly extra involved about how Bass and Raman plan to sort out the issues proper right here in Los Angeles! They’re working to be the mayor of America’s second-largest metropolis. What’s going to the winner do about our intractable homelessness, funding for our fireplace and police departments, site visitors congestion, air high quality, security at faculties and parks, and many others.?
Our subsequent mayor will need to have a transparent concentrate on native points, not Gaza.
