To the editor: It’s deeply disappointing to the nonprofit sector when a colleague makes the information for doing one thing that may be (or is) unlawful or unethical (“L.A. nonprofit rented luxury Santa Monica apartment, BMW for CEO living in Hawaii,” Oct. 13).

I’ve been within the subject for 38 years. In my expertise, nearly all of nonprofits work with integrity. In lots of instances, the workers is underpaid, the hours are lengthy and workers work in modest places of work. Serving to others is one in all our worker advantages.

The place I work, we submit month-to-month invoices that embrace important back-up data to justify our bills. Along with annual single audits of all the group, we have now annual audits of particular person applications. Per our annual tax submitting, we spend 90% of our income on applications, leaving a mere 10% for administrative and fundraising prices.

I consider I communicate for almost all of my counterparts who’re doing what we promised to do with our funds and are dealing with our funds responsibly and ethically. Sadly, following the foundations doesn’t make the information.
