To the editor: L.A. officers’ failure to deal with the potential fireplace hazards of deserted properties might be because of muddled traces of accountability, lack of workers empowerment and a tradition of indifference (“Abandoned properties, fire hazards. Are L.A. mayor candidates part of the fix, or the problem?,” Sept. 12).
There are at the very least two methods to deal with this. One can be for the mayor to carry division heads accountable and institute a program to vary the tradition. The second can be to create a citywide ombudsman workplace staffed with skilled, seasoned individuals. The individuals in such an workplace would understand how town works, what levers to push and who to name, and make suggestions for enchancment. Solely then can we start to see actual change and improved responsiveness.
