To the editor: It’s official: The State Division is suspending immigration visas for individuals from poorer nations as a result of they could want meals stamps or one thing (“U.S. suspending immigrant visa processing from 75 countries over public assistance,” Jan. 14).

I suppose we will count on “Don the builder” to start chiseling off Emma Lazarus’ inscription on the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your drained, your poor, Your huddled plenty craving to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.”

    Denys Arcuri, Indio

    ..

To the editor: As I learn the record of nations from which the U.S. will not settle for visas, and as I recall the writings of White Home Deputy Chief of Employees Stephen Miller since his high school days in Santa Monica, I conclude the U.S. coverage is to permit solely white immigrants into the nation. I’m questioning if that is the best way U.S. residents need it to go.
