    To the editor: In studying Mikael Wooden’s gushing profile of Interscope CEO John Janick (“Why this ‘visionary’ record exec still believes in the major label,” Jan. 30), with nary a nod to the injury completed to the music trade by large conglomerates like his, I recalled this quote by music historian Alan Lomax:

    “We now have cultural machines so highly effective that one singer can attain all people on the planet. … As soon as that will get began, he will get backed by a lot money and a lot energy that he turns into a monstrous invader from outer area, crushing the life out of all the opposite human prospects.”
