To the editor: What’s going to it take for lawmakers to lastly act on the e-bike disaster that has been plaguing our streets for the previous a number of years (“An O.C. teen on an e-motorbike injured an 81-year-old man. The teen’s mom now faces felony charges,” April 22)?

In my neighborhood, I see youngsters driving what are primarily electrical bikes virtually every day. They ignore cease indicators, weave by way of visitors and carry out wheelies on the street. These aren’t innocent bicycles. They’re quick, heavy machines being utilized by youngsters who typically don’t perceive the hazard they pose to themselves and others.

Do we actually want to attend till a dad or mum is prosecuted or a baby is significantly injured earlier than significant motion is taken?

Lawmakers ought to concentrate on the producers and retailers promoting these bikes and require stronger safeguards earlier than buy. There must be a greater system of checks and accountability so these machines aren’t so simply positioned within the fingers of youngsters. I help clear transportation, however not on the expense of public security.
