To the editor: This text permits Decide Judy Sheindlin to name the assessor’s workplace staff “numbnuts” and to say that it takes two hours to achieve them by telephone, unchallenged (“Bezos, Judge Judy, Rihanna: L.A. County assessor goes after celebrities’ jets for unpaid taxes,” Sept. 2).
I handled the Los Angeles County assessor’s workplace each personally and professionally for about 70 years, together with on property tax issues referring to airplanes and boats. I imagine it is without doubt one of the {most professional} and competent authorities departments anyplace.
Among the many findings of the 2022-2023 Los Angeles County civil grand jury, on which I served, is:
“The departments concerned in property tax administration in Los Angeles County, principally the Assessor’s Workplace, the Treasurer Tax Collector and the Auditor-Controller, coordinate and work collectively fairly nicely. … They’ve taken an extended view in creating … programs that can meet the wants of the nation’s largest county and largest property tax base … lengthy after the current executives in these departments have departed from the scene.”
Undoubtedly some authorities businesses make use of “numbnuts” or present poor service. However Decide Judy’s accusations are unwarranted.
