To the editor: Columnist Steve Lopez asks if L.A. will likely be prepared for its close-up (“Three years away from the Olympics, L.A. is tripping over hurdles and trying to play catchup,” June 7). With the World Cup in a single 12 months and the Olympics in 2028, I don’t suppose so.

A extra urgent query: Is the world prepared for the USA to host something? Does anybody suppose the nations that take part within the World Cup will present up? Will followers? We’ve already banned individuals from one taking part nation, Iran, from touring right here and are within the means of denying visas and arresting 1000’s. Followers of the World Cup won’t present up simply to be herded by turnstiles into the arms of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Quick ahead to the Olympics. At this time’s protests won’t cease. How does this metropolis prepare for the Olympics? For vacationers? I’m deeply ashamed of what’s going on on this nation and totally count on the remainder of the world to boycott us the way in which 65 nations boycotted the Russian Summer season Olympics in 1980 after Russia invaded Afghanistan.
