Progress continues in restructuring IEEE’s geographic areas, as outlined in The Institute’s February 2023 article “IEEE Is Realigning Its Geographic Regions.”

    • The “Area 1” designation will not be used.
    • The brand new Region 2 will merge what’s presently Region 1 (Northeastern U.S.) with the present Area 2 (Japanese U.S.). Will probably be known as Area 2 (Northeastern and Japanese U.S.).
    • The present Region 10 (Asia Pacific) shall be divided into two separate areas. The brand new Area 10 will embody North Asia, and the brand new Area 11 will cowl South Asia and the Pacific.

The restructuring is outlined within the picture of the redrawn map on this article.

    What’s underway

Though the brand new regional alignment won’t formally happen till 1 January 2028, a number of actions have begun inside IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) and throughout different IEEE organizational models. Inside MGA, volunteers and workers have been actively addressing system enhancements, director/director-elect elections, governance updates, communications, and regional funds and choices.

    No modifications to membership

Work will proceed from now till the efficient date of realignment in 2028. The change won’t have an effect on your IEEE membership, nor will it change both your native IEEE part or chapter.

If in case you have any questions relating to the realignment, contact Reg-Realignment@ieee.org.
