To the editor: I spit out my espresso studying that Gov. Gavin Newsom has tapped Mark Walter and Magic Johnson, each a part of the Dodgers possession group, to help lead a new fire recovery effort.

Walter, his basis and the L.A. Dodgers Basis reportedly will present as much as $100 million to jump-start fundraising for this push. No shade on that. However all people has it backward.

This bunch — that means Dodgers possession — is shilling for an oil big, Phillips 66, that’s contributing to the local weather change that worsened one of many costliest disasters in trendy U.S. historical past.

Phillips 66 owns the 76 fuel model, whose brand is plastered throughout Dodger Stadium. It’s an egregious act of greenwashing for a lethal fossil gasoline.

As a lot as Los Angeles appreciates the generosity, the Dodgers group must cease endorsing a contributor to the reason for the catastrophe it’s now serving to to mop up. It’s hypocritical within the excessive and positions the Dodgers as social gathering to elements making our fires so excessive.

The Dodgers must drop the Phillips 66 sponsorship now. L.A. is watching whereas it grieves.
