    PARIS: A French financial institution robber nicknamed the “jailbreak king” has been arrested following cooperation with Belgian authorities, French Inside Minister Bruno Retailleau stated on Thursday (Feb 27).

    French media studies stated Antonio Ferrara had been arrested in Belgium after finishing up an tried theft in Germany.

    “The felony Antonio Ferrara has been arrested,” Retailleau wrote in a publish on social media platform X through which he additionally praised the police for his or her professionalism and the Belgian authorities for his or her “exemplary cooperation”.

    Ferrara earned his nickname on account of his dramatic escape from the utmost safety Fresnes jail close to Paris in 2003 after his associates blew up a jail gate and sprayed guards with AK47 hearth.

    He had been serving time there for financial institution robberies, a earlier jail escape in 1998, and different crimes.

    In 2008, Ferrara was handed a 17-year jail sentence for his 2003 jailbreak. French newspapers Le Figaro and Le Monde reported that Ferrara had been launched from jail in 2022 after serving most of that sentence.
