To the editor: So, President Trump imposes tariffs on different international locations, stifling worldwide commerce and leaving American farmers unable to promote their crops as they used to (“Trump is proposing a $12-billion aid package for farmers hit by his trade war with China,” Dec. 8).
Now, the president goes to bail out farmers with a $12-billion help package deal to unravel the issue that he created? Wouldn’t it have made extra financial sense to not impose the tariffs to start with?
President Reagan was proper; “Excessive tariffs inevitably result in retaliation by overseas international locations and the triggering of fierce commerce wars” that in the end “harm each American employee and client.”
Will Trump now demand a peace prize from the farmers of America for rescuing them … from himself?
