Comic Carlos Mencia has been charged with 12 felony tax counts, Los Angeles County District Lawyer Nathan Hochman introduced Thursday.

Prosecutors allege Mencia, 58, didn’t file private and company tax returns over a six-year interval and didn’t report about $8.7 million in earnings, leading to greater than $300,000 in unpaid state taxes.

The case is the primary introduced by the district lawyer’s newly launched Enterprise Tax Fraud Unit.

At a information convention Thursday, Hochman described Mencia as “considered one of California’s largest tax scofflaws” and mentioned the comic seems on the California Franchise Tax Board’s record of the state’s 500 largest tax delinquents in each private and company earnings tax classes.

In keeping with prosecutors, Mencia is charged with six felony counts associated to private earnings tax returns and 6 felony counts associated to company tax returns. Authorities allege he didn’t report each company and private earnings between 2019 and 2024.

Hochman mentioned the California Franchise Tax Board despatched Mencia 78 notices relating to his tax obligations throughout that interval, however he allegedly didn’t reply to any of them.
