    Bobby Jenks, 2-time All-Star closer with Chicago White Sox, dies at 44

    CHICAGO — Bobby Jenks, a two-time All-Star nearer and World Collection champion with the Chicago White Sox, has died, the group introduced Saturday. He was 44.

    The White Sox mentioned Jenks died Friday in Sintra, Portugal, the place he was being handled for adenocarcinoma, a type of abdomen most cancers.

    Jenks helped the White Sox win the 2005 World Series, saving 4 video games in six appearances throughout the postseason. He was an All-Star in every of the subsequent two seasons whereas saving 41 video games in 2006 and 40 in 2007.

    He retired 41 consecutive batters in 2007, matching a document for a reliever.

    “He was embarrassing guys, good hitters, instantly,” former White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko mentioned in a video tribute.

    Jenks saved 173 video games for the White Sox from 2005-10 earlier than ending his profession with 19 appearances in 2011 for the Boston Crimson Sox. For his profession, he was 16-20 with a 3.53 ERA and 351 strikeouts in 348 appearances, all in aid.

    “He and his household knew most cancers could be his hardest battle, and he will likely be missed as a husband, father, good friend and teammate,” White Sox proprietor Jerry Reinsdorf mentioned in an announcement. “He’ll ceaselessly maintain a particular place in all our hearts.”

    Jenks is survived by his spouse, Eleni Tzitzivacos, their two youngsters, Zeno and Kate, and his 4 youngsters from a previous marriage, Cuma, Nolan, Rylan and Jackson.

    “As a teammate,” former White Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand mentioned, “he was one of the best.”
