Former president Barack Obama and former first woman Michelle Obama introduced on Wednesday the dying of their household’s pet canine, Sunny. She was 13.
“Yesterday, we misplaced a cherished member of our household,” the Obamas wrote in a joint assertion shared on social media, later including, “We are going to miss her terribly.”
Sunny, a Portuguese water canine, joined the Obama household in August 2013, throughout Barack Obama’s second time period within the White Home. She grew to become the household’s second canine, becoming a member of Bo, one other Portuguese water canine who joined the household in2009.

The Obamas remembered Sunny, who grew to become a frequent presence on the White Home, as a “drive of nature.”
“Athletic and filled with boundless power, she leapt over the hedges on the South Garden like they weren’t even there,” the Obamas wrote, recalling how the canine would chase squirrels, birds and the rest that moved.
Whereas Bo might usually be received over with a deal with, the Obamas stated Sunny most popular consideration and playtime, together with working round with the household, rolling on the ground and getting stomach rubs.
Sunny was additionally fiercely protecting of Bo and notably shut with the Obamas’ daughters, Malia and Sasha, in accordance with the previous president and first woman.
“So far as our household was involved, she was just about excellent, and for 13 years, she can be by our facet – all the time loyal, all the time candy, all the time prepared for journey, nonetheless fiery and beautiful until the very finish of her days,” the Obamas wrote of Sunny. “We are going to miss her terribly, and picture she’s along with her massive brother now, ensuring he’s okay.”
Sunny spent 13 years with the Obama household, together with almost 4 years residing on the White Home. Bo died in 2021 after a battle with most cancers.
