    Anthony Joshua’s driver charged after deadly crash in Nigeria

    LAGOS, Nigeria — The motive force in a deadly car crash that injured heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and killed his two mates in Nigeria was charged, the police stated on Friday.

    Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged with harmful and reckless driving in southwestern Ogun state following Monday’s crash, police spokesman Oluseyi Babaseyi stated in a press release on Friday.

    The car carrying Joshua, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele hit a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which hyperlinks Ogun state to Lagos.

    Kayode has been in custody since Thursday following his launch from hospital, and was subsequently granted bail of 5 million naira ($3,480), Babaseyi advised the Related Press.

    The defendant was charged on 4 counts, together with harmful driving inflicting loss of life, reckless and negligent driving, driving with out due care in addition to driving with no legitimate nationwide driver’s license.

    “He was remanded pending when he meets his bail situation,” the police spokesman stated.

    The court docket case was adjourned to Jan. 20 for trial.

    Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, was launched from hospital on Wednesday after sustaining minor accidents within the crash that raised questions on street security in Nigeria. The boxer was discharged after being deemed clinically match to recuperate at dwelling, authorities stated.

    Joshua has household roots in Nigeria and he briefly attended boarding college there as a toddler. He additionally holds Nigerian nationality.

    Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing, advised The AP on Thursday that the boxer will remain in Nigeria.
