    FAA investigating extremely close call between 2 Southwest planes in Nashville

    The Federal Aviation Administration mentioned it is investigating a particularly shut name between two Southwest Airways flights at Nashville Worldwide Airport.

    At their closest level, the planes have been proper on high of each other, with the vertical separation between the 2 planes at simply 500 toes, in keeping with FlightRadar24.

    The incident unfolded at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Southwest Flight 507 was about to land in Nashville amid gusty winds when the pilots “executed a precautionary go‑round,” Southwest Airways mentioned.

    Through the go‑round, the pilots “acquired directions from air visitors management” that put the airplane within the path of one other Southwest flight that was taking off from a “parallel runway,” the FAA mentioned in an announcement.

    Pilots on each Southwest planes responded to onboard alerts, the FAA mentioned.

    “There are a number of alarms that may go off within the cockpit,” ABC Information contributor and retired Marine Col. Steve Ganyard defined. “On this case, it was probably the most severe of these alarms, telling these pilots, you are on a collision course, you have to transfer the airplane now.”

    Flight 507 landed uneventfully after the go-around and Flight 1152 continued with its takeoff, Southwest mentioned.

    “Southwest appreciates the professionalism of its Pilots and Flight Crews in responding to the occasion,” the airline added. “Nothing is extra essential to Southwest than the Security of our Clients and Workers.”
