    Russia’s St Petersburg airport suspends flights to ensure safety: Aviation watchdog

    Russia’s Pulkovo airport in St Petersburg quickly halted flight arrivals and departures from 7.45am native time (12.45pm Singapore time) on Saturday (Jan 4) to make sure the security of civilian plane, Russia’s aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia stated.

    It didn’t specify a motive for the choice to halt flights, however Russian airports have beforehand closed when there’s a threat of Ukrainian drone strikes within the space.

    Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the northern Leningrad area containing St Petersburg, stated Russian forces had shot down two drones close to Luga Bay within the gulf of Finland.

    “The airport is quickly not accepting or dispatching flights,” a Rosaviatsia consultant wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

    “Plane crews, air visitors controllers and airport providers are taking all mandatory measures to make sure flight security – that is the highest precedence.”
