To the editor: If Zoe Rosenberg achieved her mission of releasing each poultry hen from captivity, she would fail at her objective of creating “each animal … protected and completely happy, free” (“An animal rights activist said she ‘rescued’ chickens. A jury convicted her of conspiracy,” Oct. 30). What Rosenberg and vigilantes like her fail to grasp is that the species Gallus gallus domesticus exists solely because of human husbandry and agriculture. These extremely inbred animals are utterly incapable of dwelling within the wild. They’re unable to feed themselves or defend themselves from all method of predators. If these activists achieved their objective, the species would shortly go extinct.

However, because it stands, from an evolutionary standpoint, the poultry hen is among the most profitable species on the planet. So long as people proceed to farm and eat Gallus gallus domesticus, its survival as a species is as safe as our personal.

If animal rights activists wish to assist animals be “completely happy” and “free,” they need to refocus their consideration to defending wild endangered species. In the true world, there isn’t a such factor as security; there’s solely survival of the fittest. However not less than with these animals, there’s a theoretical chance that they is perhaps completely happy and free.
