CARACAS: President Nicolas Maduro stated on Monday (Oct 6) that Venezuela foiled a false flag operation by what he referred to as native terrorists to plant explosives on the US embassy in Caracas and exacerbate a dispute between the 2 nations over drug trafficking.

Talking on his weekly TV program, Maduro stated two sources, which he didn’t title, “agreed on the likelihood {that a} native terrorist group positioned an explosive machine on the US embassy in Caracas” with the intention to irritate the dispute with Washington.

Jorge Rodriguez, head of Venezuela’s delegation for dialogue with its arch-foe, stated earlier that Caracas had warned Washington of “a severe risk” from alleged extremists who “tried to plant deadly explosives on the US embassy”.

“We have now strengthened safety measures at this diplomatic mission,” added Rodriguez.

The South American nation’s socialist authorities usually accuses the opposition of plots.

Caracas and Washington severed diplomatic ties in 2019, and the US embassy has been abandoned, barring a couple of native workers.

Maduro stated on Monday evening “it’s an embassy which is protected, regardless of all of the variations now we have had with the governments of the US”.

Washington has made Venezuela the focus of its struggle in opposition to drug trafficking, although a lot of the unlawful medicine coming into the US originate in, or are shipped via, Mexico.

President Donald Trump’s administration has despatched warships and planes to the Caribbean area and bombed several small boats off the coast of Venezuela, which it says have been carrying medicine sure for the US.

At the very least 21 individuals have been killed within the strikes, which Trump claims are halting the circulation of medication throughout the Caribbean.

“We’re stopping medicine at a degree that no person’s ever seen,” he advised an viewers of US Navy sailors in Virginia on Sunday.

Maduro says Trump’s true objective is regime change.

Caracas has responded to the “threats” by deploying hundreds of troops alongside Venezuela’s land and sea borders and signing up hundreds of members to a civilian militia.

The USA didn’t recognise Maduro’s 2024 re-election, rejected by the Venezuelan opposition and far of the world as a stolen vote.

Throughout his first time period, Trump tried to dislodge Maduro by recognising an opposition chief as interim president and imposing sanctions on Venezuela’s all-important oil sector.

However Maduro clung to energy, with the help of the army.
