To the editor: Visitor contributor Ben Ratskoff’s column spoke to me for quite a few causes (“When did ‘Never again’ become a controversial statement?” Sept. 10). Though I’m not Jewish, my coronary heart is filled with compassion for anybody who has skilled trauma of any variety, particularly with reference to generational trauma. As a Black man in the US, the teachings of historical past are by no means misplaced on me and I aspire to remind individuals in my group that we must not ever return.

So as to make sure that, we should spotlight the injustice and struggling of others, no matter who they’re. Within the phrases of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., “An injustice anyplace is a menace to justice in all places.” This column places a lot in perspective for me. Ratskoff mentions quotes that have been posted by Holocaust Museum LA, together with “Jews should not let the trauma of our previous silence our conscience” and “To be Jewish is to recollect and act.” These phrases are extraordinarily impactful to me and I’m certain others.

I wish to personally thank Ratskoff for being vocal concerning the historical past that’s usually willfully forgotten. There are additionally those that want to rewrite and reimagine the horrors of our previous; that’s why I’m inspired by this column. It’s a name to motion, for the Jewish group first after which the Gentiles who consider in a world that’s inclusive and equitable for each man, lady and youngster.
