Southern California college students and college staged a walkout at their center faculty in protest of the Temecula Valley Unified College District’s coverage that enables transgender ladies in bogs and locker rooms.

Throughout class on Tuesday, students, parents and faculty members at James L. Day Center College walked out to protest towards the district policy that affirms that transgender college students can entry bogs and locker rooms “per a pupil’s gender id.”

Because the begin of the brand new school 12 months, a pupil who identifies as feminine has been utilizing the ladies’ locker room, mother and father report.

The Board Policy 5145.31: “Religious or Mental Health-Related Accommodations” does provide ladies two “outs,” that are both to file a religious-belief lodging or a mental-health lodging.

However mother and father on the protest informed the California Household Council that neither choice is appropriate. They don’t wish to label their daughter with a psychological well being situation for wanting privateness or declare a religious exemption to keep away from boys dressing in ladies’ locker rooms, mother and father added. As one mother acknowledged, “My daughter’s not anxious or sick. She simply deserves a ladies’ locker room.”

Those that attended the protest wore white and pink bracelets that mentioned “Save Ladies’ Sports” and held up indicators.

“The scholars have been clear,” mentioned Sophia Lorey, outreach director of the California Household Council. “This wasn’t about attacking anybody. They need secure, personal, female-only areas to alter for P.E. The boys who joined have been there to face with the ladies – to not make bother, simply to say, ‘Shield ladies’ areas.’”

The Heart Sq. reached out to Temecula’s colleges superintendent, Gary Woods, for a remark, however has not obtained a response.

The district mentioned in a statement that it “respects the rights of scholars and group members to interact in peaceable expression and meeting,” including California legislation requires that college students “be allowed to take part in sex-segregated packages and have entry to amenities per their gender id. Any revised proposal will take this requirement into consideration whereas addressing the considerations raised by college students, mother and father, and the group.”

Temecula Valley faculty board members Jen Wiersma and Dr. Joseph Komrosky additionally attended the center faculty walkout.

Komrosky mentioned the district’s “mental health and non secular exemption lodging” framework is the incorrect device.

“I used to be elected to symbolize the values of the mother and father of my group, and nearly all of our group in Temecula have conventional family values,” Komrosky mentioned. “What’s taking place at this center faculty, when a organic boy enters the ladies’ locker room, is something however conventional. It’s social and political activism. I would like each baby to have and secure education. Elements of this aren’t secure, and college students really feel their innocence is being robbed. I’ll proceed to combat this ethical battle to defend the innocence of children and empower mother and father.”

TVUSD is predicted to handle Board Coverage 5145.31 and associated privateness measures on the subsequent common board assembly on Sept. 9.
