To the editor: The article about college students unable to get the courses they want hits near residence (“Students can’t get into basic college courses, dragging out their time in school,” Sept. 2). My youngsters weren’t late graduating due to unhealthy grades or too many frat events — they have been late as a result of they couldn’t get into fundamental normal schooling courses. We pay sufficient tuition to cowl a small nation’s protection finances, and but one way or the other it’s tougher to get into the “fundamental requirement” programs than it’s to get a parking spot at Dealer Joe’s.

Right here’s a radical thought: When required courses overflow, open extra sections. Rent and practice high quality trainer assistants, lease greater lecture halls — heck, educate Econ 101 at Dodger Stadium if you happen to should. Simply don’t make youngsters waste an additional semester (and us one other tuition verify) as a result of faculties can’t ship the capability.

College students want in-person courses and classmates. Faculty must be about rising up, not hitting refresh on the enrollment portal prefer it’s Ticketmaster.
