To the Editor: I’m not a USC alumna, however I’m moved to write down as a result of the college’s craven actions concerning variety, fairness and inclusion have stained the status of all Los Angeles residents (“USC scrubs DEI from some webpages as Trump cracks down on campus diversity programs,” Feb. 28).

Town’s variety and dedication to social justice is its superpower. As a college that’s linked within the minds of many to this metropolis, USC has larger requirements to take care of.

Talking of requirements, the Annenberg Faculty for Communication and Journalism’s actions stand out as notably egregious as a result of they undermine its mission. The college will not be upholding requirements of journalistic excellence when it obfuscates language and a prime administrator and college member refuse to talk to the press.

USC has bowed to authoritarian stress by “obeying upfront.” It will probably and should do higher for the sake of our metropolis and all the good it represents.

    Janine Perron, Los Angeles

    ..

I used to be angered however not shocked once I examine USC capitulating to President Trump’s anti-DEI tyranny. However with out even a direct menace, USC directors concern a man-made intelligence scrubber would possibly discover their DEI-speak and drain the school of some unknown quantity of federal funding.

Please. Is that this the journalistic and scholastic management college students ought to count on in 2025? If USC desires to proceed to be probably the most revered journalism faculties within the nation, it ought to put down this cowardice, stand as much as Trump and “Battle On.”

    Carrie Poppy, Los Angeles

The author earned a grasp’s in journalism from USC in 2015.

    ..

To the editor: President Trump hates variety, fairness and inclusion. It’s wasteful spending and, heaven forbid, would possibly deliver “completely different” folks to the desk. USC, in response, scrubs some references to DEI.

Bear in mind when your mother instructed you to scrub your room and you probably did it in report time? That’s as a result of your whole stuff went beneath your mattress.

USC can overtly cease making a show of its dedication to DEI. Until Trump requires a thoughts wipe, USC workers and directors can nonetheless observe DEI tips; they simply don’t must promote it. Trump won’t ever look beneath the mattress.
