To the editor: Studying this text brings again extra reminiscences of Jan. 7, 2025, (“Botched Altadena evacuations, dysfunction in Pacific Palisades: Long-awaited fire investigation identifies missteps,” Oct. 2). Day-after-day I see extra articles and opinions on-line. Typically you simply desire a break.

Backside line, I can’t put blame on our Sheriff’s Division or the Los Angeles Hearth Division. Nobody knew what would occur that evening or might be ready for it. Our native Sheriff’s Division in Altadena did an unbelievable job. We’ve a restricted variety of officers in Altadena. How might they’ve been ready for this?

I dwell in east Altadena. On Jan. 7, my energy flickered at 6:45 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., my neighbors have been pounding on my door, telling me to get out. We noticed the hearth coming. I didn’t obtain an evacuation discover till 10 p.m.; by that point, I used to be on the Hilton in Pasadena.

It was a horrible tragedy for all. However in case you see a hearth coming, that you must make plans to get out. It’s not all the time our Sheriff’s Division’s or Hearth Division’s accountability.

I used to be displaced for eight months. My dwelling was broken. Day-after-day we dwell with this, as most of my instant neighborhood is gone. We’re coping with burnt tons, messed-up streets and the fixed noise and mud from the rebuilds.

Out of the ashes, a backyard will develop once more. Let’s cease all of the blaming and study from the previous.

To the editor: I get that the laser focus of the Los Angeles Instances’ excellent piece on the brand new report about native company failures associated to final yr’s lethal L.A. fires is strictly that. However I’m dismayed that this lengthy and detailed rationalization lacked a single reference to how local weather change worsened these fires — a reality the paper itself has reported.

As extra journalists and others perceive, each reporter is a local weather reporter. There isn’t any remoted “local weather beat” as we face down this civilizational disaster. And I’m an enormous and vocal fan of the paper’s local weather and surroundings protection — it’s a part of why I proceed to subscribe in print. However as famend local weather and atmospheric scientist Katharine Hayhoe urges, we should discuss local weather change. We should act too, after all. So please don’t ever, ever go away it out of the dialog.
